Transverse Collective Instability in the Psr

چکیده

An instability in the Proton Storage Ring (PSR) is observed as fast loss of beam during accumulation and storage when the injected beam current exceeds a threshold value. Experimental study results of that instability are presented in this paper. The instability threshold depends significantly on rf voltage, injected momentum spread, and PSR sextupole and octupole strengths. The results are consistent with the hypothesis that the instability is a transverse instability excited by a transverse impedance ZJ.. with IZJ..I == 1 MQ/m. The driving impedance has significant magnitude in the 30to 300-MHz frequency range.

Electron Proton Two-stream Instability at the Psr*

A strong, fast, transverse instability has long been observed at the Los Alamos Proton Storage Ring (PSR) where it is a limiting factor on peak intensity. Most of the available evidence, based on measurements of the unstable proton beam motion, is consistent with an electron-proton two-stream instability. The need for higher beam intensity at PSR [1] and for future highintensity, proton drivers...

Recent Progress on Beam Stability Study in the Psr

A fast transverse instabilityhas been observed in the Los Alamos Proton Storage Ring (PSR) when the injected beam intensity reaches more than 2 10 protons per pulse. Understanding the cause and control of this instability has taken on new importance as the neutron-scattering community considers the next generation of accelerator-driven spallation-neutron sources, which call for peak proton inte...

Survey of Collective Instabilities and Beam-Plasma Interactions in Intense Heavy Ion Beams

This paper presents a survey of the present theoretical understanding based on advanced analytical and numerical studies of collective processes and beam-plasma interactions in intense heavy ion beams for applications to ion-beam-driven high energy density physics and heavy ion fusion. The topics include: discussion of the conditions for quiescent beam propagation over long distances; and the e...

Transverse vibration and instability of fluid conveying triple-walled carbon nanotubes based on strain-inertia gradient theory

In this paper, the transverse vibration of a triple-walled carbon nanotube (TWCNT) conveying fluid flow is studied based on the strain/inertia gradient theory with van der Waals interaction taken into consideration. The nanotube is modelled using Euler-Bernoulli beam model and the Galerkin’s method is employed to obtain the CNT complex valued Eigen-frequencies. The effects of the fluid flow tho...
